Talking Heads Home is where I want to be Pick me up and turn me around I feel numb, burn with a weak heart Guess I must be having fun The less we say about it the better Make it up as we go along Feet on the ground, head in the sky It's okay, I know nothing's wrong, nothing I got plenty of time You got light in your eyes And you're standing here beside me I love the passing of time Never for money, always for love Cover up and say goodnight, say goodnight Home, is where I want to be But I guess I'm already there I come home, she lifted up her wings I guess that this must be the place I can't tell one from the other I find you, or you find me? There was a time before we were born If someone asks, this is where I'll be, where I'll be We drift in and out Sing into my mouth Out of all those kinds of people You got a face with a view I'm just an animal looking for a home And share the same space for a minute or two And you love me till my heart stops Love me till I'm dead Eyes that light up Eyes look through you Cover up the blank spots Hit me on the head As I begin my journey of traveling the inner and outer world simultaneously, my sister gives me unconditional love and support with words that are so true. Yoga, Pilates, meditation, & mindfulness practices alike, nurture inner peace. When you go to a structured class or practice at home to address your Body, Mind, & Soul it is simply that, a practice. The true testiment to your skill is how you respond when chaos arrives, as it surely will. Life has a way of doing that. The goal is to remain a witness to life; being present in yourself without allowing circumstance to tear you down, but rather support you through whatever you may be experienceing: love, joy, bliss, pain, anguish, torment, ect...During the physical outer shifts and changes, it’s important to stay centered and grounded within the inner world to remain in a state of integrity and alignment with your highest self to ensure your health and happiness. The inner world is what I call “home”. Consciously choosing to recognize yourself as “home” rather than an outside structure, or land, you move into a space of flexibility, releasing rigidity and stubbornness. Identifying your home within allows you the opportunity to witness your individuality, your uniqueness and gifts, while remaining comfortable in your own skin wherever you are in the world. Witnessing allows you to view the world as if you were a child, seeing with new eyes in every moment. This is a process of designing your life from the inside out. Being a witness is a practice that cultivates deep listening. Since we live in this outer world more readily, I believe that when you can learn to listen deeply to others, then you can begin to listen deeply to yourself. Being a Witness to Others Being a witness to others takes practice because we have to be in a place of non judgement. We have to release the stories that we think we know about our friends, family members, and even strangers to fully commit to allowing people space to express who they are in each moment. When you can release attachment to the stories you create about people, there are infinite possibilities of what can happen. The moment you recognize that each person has a unique experience to share and become a witness to them, the impossible becomes the possible. Each person on this earth has their own wisdom and experience to offer as a gift to you and you might miss it if you aren’t listening deeply. 1. Practice Witnessing Others This can be done at any time of day and any place, as long as there is at least one person to witness. You could even grab a friend, (or a stranger!) and do this practice together. A good prompt question you can ask is “What’s alive in you right now?” or “How are you feeling?” Consider this practice like people watching, while abandoning the storytelling that so often goes along with it. Observe what you see and hear, finding silent words to describe exactly that, leaving out the evaluations and interpretations. Take notice of their body motions, posture, tone of voice, volume, word choice, eye gaze, facial movements and how they navigate interacting with others. 2. Practice Witnessing Yourself Once you have practiced witnessing others, the ability to observe yourself becomes more accessible. By beginning to apply the same technique to yourself; observe your movements, posture, tone of voice, volume, word choice, eye gaze, facial movements and how you navigate interacting with others, you'll eventually see yourself in a new perspective of clarity that supports your growth and development. When you begin to practice witnessing yourself, you’re more able to see how you react to the outer world. You are able to identify the beliefs and patterns that you perpetuate. You are able to discern when you move into a space of distress and chaos. Having this awareness of self enables you the opportunity of choice. You can move from reactionary behaviors to conscious responses that offer you support in being in alignment with your higher self. You can move into a space of taking responsibility for how you show up in this life, while making choices that support your desire to grow and change habits that cause pain and suffering. While releasing your own stories and judgements of self, you open up to the infinite possibilities of what you may do and where your life may go. On this soul searching journey, it’s a trap to be in a place of incessantly questioning your passions and purpose. This is a great practice to follow this pivotal question of self identity. In the process of witnessing, you will create the opportunity to see yourself in action, discovering your passions and purpose as you flourish through life. Being a witness also allows you the ability to see yourself as you see others and come to a place of connection that fosters unity that will change the world.
